About 1121 Sella Basmati Rice
Parboiling transforms the rice at a molecular level. The paddy is soaked in water, then steamed under pressure — driving nutrients from the bran layer into the grain while gelatinising the starch. When milled, the result is a slightly translucent, off-white grain that cooks to a firm, perfectly separated finish. This is why Sella Basmati is the preferred choice for biryani, pilaf, and large-scale food service cooking worldwide.
The 1121 variety's exceptional grain length (7.8mm raw, elongating to 18mm+ cooked) makes it particularly suited for premium Sella processing. Buyers across the Middle East, Europe, and South Asian diaspora markets specify 1121 Sella for its consistent performance in high-volume cooking environments. The firmer texture means grains do not clump or break during prolonged cooking.
Sella processing also significantly extends shelf life compared to steam rice — making it well-suited for long shipping times and markets where storage periods are longer.
